Frankfurt (Oder) is a lively independent city in Brandenburg that is characterised by its special location: It is with its Polish neighbour Słubice one of four German-Polish twin cities. The city has around 58,200 inhabitants. Since 1991, it has hosted the European University Viadrina.
Frankfurt (Oder) is one of the cities selected to receive funding from the E.ON Foundation together with the Berlin Governance Platform Municipal Development Council which advises on how the socio-ecological transformation can be implemented locally.

The Municipal Development Advisory Board in Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice has the task of contributing to a sustainable and collaborative urban and neighbourhood development to contribute. Its main task is to create a Model for the future use of an area at the city bridge connecting Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice. This mission statement will form the basis for the future development of the area on Słubice Street and reflect the vision of a vibrant urban community. It will define functions that this area should fulfil for the urban community, as well as criteria for its urban design and development.
In addition, ideas for the interim use of the area are recorded in order to emphasise the diversity and dynamism of the city. Important development topics such as the Improving residential and mobility functions, achieving climate neutrality, promoting the transport transition, implementing smart city concepts and effective city management are processed at the neighbourhood level.
In order to promote cooperation between the two cities in one bilingual, German-Polish process the meetings of the 36-member Advisory Board are translated simultaneously.
